just brought a 300 SL 1993. Would it be advisable to put an alarm on? Are they quite easy to steal?

Yes and yes. I'd speak to your insurers and see if they require one

The ideal approach would be to insure the car on a classic policy with an agreed value so if the worst happens you get a proper pay out
