Current model E Class diesel experiences

Hello,
Can anyone share their experiences good or bad regarding the current model E class diesel? The mother is pondering a 2008/9 four cylinder diesel (200, 220, 250).
Are their any known faults or are they pretty solid these days? Thinking of major items such as auto gearbox, DPF, injectors etc.
What would be a typical urban & motorway MPG for an auto model?
She's in her 60's so has no real interest in performance and it'll not be going over 75mph!
