Yup.
4-speed auto was an option for the 2.3-16 and later on the 2.5-16.

Some say the auto is more desirable because it's a Mercedes, but the 2.3/2.5-16 aficionado will say go manual

thanks, would prefer the manual tbh but merc autos from this era are pretty good from experience (liked a C36 I had) just not really in keeping with this one I dont think, I'll have a go in it and see.

I had a 2.5 16v back in the day and loved it. The rule was always choose an Auto gearbox on any Mercedes except the Cosworth which should be manual.
