Pattern parts

I popped into Merc today to buy some discs and pads for my E class, which wre only £12 more expensive than Bosch ones, and they had a display of pattern compared to genuine Merc parts.

You could clearly see the difference in quality, even the Bosch stuff was inferior.

I'll never buy non Merc parts again.

Also, the discs are well heavy!

Pattern bodywork parts a definite no-no, especially for the older stuff.
I wouldn't say going own brand is always a bad thing, though.

For example, I bought a new headlight glass for my 124. Mercedes used a Bosch item, so the item I bought came in Bosch box rather than a Mercedes box. Without remember exact figues, the price difference was significant for an identical part

I guess it depends on what you are purchasing. Some things are better if genuine - your example on obvious case of this. But other parts, if up to spec, are worth saving a bit of money, even more as the cars get older

Yeah, cos the genuine Merc wings on my SLK are so rustfree............

I used some pattern discs on my old W208 and never could get the Wheel balance right.
Ended up replacing them after a couple of months for genuine and problem solved.

They are when you buy them
It is more the initial fit and finish of the pattern bodywork parts is inferior to genuine
