the 2 number plate lights are not working on my 1995 320 ce (W124 model)

i have replaced both bulbs, and checked the relevant fuse, all to no avail

help please

Try getting a multimeter out and checking if they have power at the bulb holders.

Could be corroded at the light bulb holder and need a good clean.

As above. If not that, look for shorts in where the wire goes up the boot lid hinge.

still no luck with the terminals cleaned

?apparently? the W124 is known for earthing problems?

where , and how do i look for the earth connection for the number plate lights?

I don't think the W124 suffers from earthing problems. It does suffer from broken wires where they pass by door & tailgate hinges, though, so the same may well be true with the Coupe boot lid

Best way to check is to disconnect the battery, find one side of the loom that feeds into the boot lid and tug each wire in turn. The damaged ones will break & come away in your hand
