SLK 230 1999 Window problem - closes too high

My Drivers side window works OK but closes too high ?
I pulled door card off to have a look and found a small thin gauge steel angle bracket loose in the door - it looks like it was maybe spot welded to something and obviously dropped off.
I couldn't see where it was originally located - its about 30mm long "L" shaped with 25mm angle faces and very thin sheet steel?
I would imagine it acted as a stop to say the window was in the closed postion but now the window goes about 10mm too high and doesn't sit right in the rubber seal. I have too flick the window switch to get it to stop in the coreect position.
Anyone got any ideas how to refit the stop or even where it was originally.

If its damaged / repaired I bet you can get a suitable replacement online from salvage. Even try your local MB dealer and ask for a price - they will be able to identify the part on the system and show you the drawings to confirm.

My window was slightly out when I got my car a couple of years ago - not 10mm though. My garage did a slight adjustment and its better now - don't want damage to the seals as they do cost money to replace.

This failure is not uncommon and has happened to my mother's SLK (also a 1999) twice. I seem to recall that there was a stop attached to or part of the glass which became detached. I will ask next time I see her and have a look at the bills. I do not recall it being expensive, only that the dealer was familiar with the problem and it seemed a result of cheap design or manufacture. I am pretty sure that the offending stop attaches to the glass, though.

Does this image from the EPC help?

Is it the part numbered 35 in the diagram which you found loose in the door? There should be two in each door.

its normally the other part that is bonded to the glass rather than the bolted bit to the door that drops off
