Question about the Performance Pack (C63)
Discussion
Im considering an AMG as my next steed and need to know a few things before i dive in.
At which point did the Performance Pack change to do away with the LSD and make it an option? If i was looking at a 2009 58 plate PP car would this have the diff as standard? Im not fussed about the extra BHP that the later PP cars got but the diff is something i'd like.

I'd rather go for a 2010, normal spec car that someone has optioned the LSD, will be a similar proce, the brakes cost a lot lot more on the pp cars too.
Thats ok. Been used to RS6 running costs for 2 years followed by E61 M5 running costs for a further 2 years so im not scared. The car ive been introduced to only has 14k miles on the clock and is a 2009 58 plate in a rare colour so id be happier with that than a later car with more miles. Most of the depreciation has been lost now and its got really low mileage so its almost a new car as far as im concerned. Excited! So long as it comes off.

Which colour ?Excited! So long as it comes off.
Tanzanite blue! I think it might be a little bit marmite for some people but i quite like it. Took the wife down to drive one at another dealer today and she loved it. Its important she can drive it as she is restricted to her Volvo currently due to the M5's gearbox quirks (and me being anal about how its driven.....lol)! The one she drove today was a PPPlus car in white, similar mileage too, so we have a couple to barter over.

- AMG Compound Braking System
- AMG Track-Calibrated Suspension - stiffer springs
- AMG Leather/Alcantara Performance Steering Wheel
- Top Speed: 174 mph

Get a good price!Excited! So long as it comes off.
-one thing I couldnt figure out when I was looking was that most 2009 cars were the same price as 2010 cars, I got mine at a really decent price with 18k miles on it, LOTS of options (but sadly no lsd), and have the benefit of the remainder of the manufacturers warranty, and got the dealer to add an extra year on top, so 18 months warranty in total.
Either way, good luck, its an amazing car!

Ok! Having just picked up my 60 plate PPP car at the weekend (no LSD specced, but an option to have dealer fit one) i'm a little confused as to why the LSD is such an important item (seems important to those who have it and no issue to those who dont?). With the ESP turned right down its really easy to get 2 wheels spinning at the rear and a little drift on despite everyone chirping about only being able to spin one up without an LSD. Seems the electronic anchoring that takes place is just as good, if not better and safer due it being harnessed in the interest of safety. Is this the case in reality?
Is it just a case that those with the LSD feel theirs is a superior car due to 'hype' rather than actually knowing for sure if its a bonus or stagnant / useless item. I can see it may be of help on a track, if you know 100% what you are doing and if you have the space and approval of the management. Otherwise, is it going to affect me in any way.
All i want is advice based on your ACTUAL EXPERIENCES rather than hearsay if you would be so kind. The money and run-in time needed to have the LSD fitted needs to be worth it and i dont want to find my car is no better on the road or more unsafe as a result. Fire at will.........

LSD helps traction out of bends on track and also on the road turning out of junctions, although I doubt many sensible people drive on the road with ESP off (you can turn it fully off but it still activates once you brake).
But it is clutch based so probably will be worn out by 40k miles!

I have the LSD on my C63. I wasn't going to spec it, however having driven a C63 with one just after I ordered mine, I was left in no doubt that I had to have it.
So how did this come about? Well after ordering my C63, my supplying dealer had an AMG Event day. I was invited along to drive an Estate (what I had ordered, but not what I had driven) along with a demonstrator vehicle, with 8000 miles on, which I was positively encourage to thrash (!!). I drove the Estate first, which felt great and much like the Saloon I'd first test driven. Then I jumped in the 8000 mile car (also a Saloon) and after the test drive, I just knew it had the LSD. The way you could drive through a corner, the way the throttle could be used to steer the car as much as the wheel, from minute adjustments to, erm, big and scary ones, was just brilliant!
During and after the test drive, I made no mention or question of the LSD, instead waiting until the next week to confirm a few more bits about more order. Not wanting the salesman to smell an easy kill, I thanked him for his invite to the AMG Event and casually enquired as to the spec of both cars I'd driven. It was then my thoughts were confirmed: the 8000 mile car did have the LSD. I knew it all along, but this meant I had to stump up the cash and amend my order.
In retrospect, was it worth it? Abso-bloody-lutely! (In my experience, those who say the LSD is not necessary are also those who haven't driven a C63 with one).
Oh and to add, the LSD-effect of braking the rear wheels to limit wheelspin is, whilst effective, a sure fire way to get through brake pads almost as fast as rear tyres!!
HTH.
