I need to replace my golf gti as it is coming up for 100k miles and 6 years old
(company car allowance policy)

I do about 25k miles a year.
A very early commute to work on a Monday morning of 180 mainly motorway miles, return Thursday/Friday evening, together  with 15 mile daily each way commutes.

The golf has cost me circa £10k a year to run (deprecation, maintenance and fuel at 30 mpg) with fuel being exactly half of this figure.

Requirements are
- similar cost to run (perhaps nudge up to £14k pa)
- can be parked on a city centre street at night without drawing to much attention
- quite, comfortable, automatic ( golf is a DSG)
- can be bought for less than £30k
- not a saloon

Drawn to a Merc CL500.....I know it doesn't meet all the requirements especially cost to run.

Anyone got any experience of running one ??

It'll certainly make you feel good, especially on a Monday morning!

I can't see fuel costs being much worse than the GTI. If anything goes wrong it might put a dent in the budget but, realistically, nothing much should go wrong if you choose wisely.
