Help! Unlocking the boot of a '98 SLK...

Folks...Ive been an arse. Consequently Im hoping somebody can tell me the nice logical Germans covered the possibility of future owners being arses and came up with a way round it. And more importantly one of you knows its!

Ive locked my keys in the boot. Normally this wouldnt be a problem, except they are my spare keys and it seems Ive managed to lose my main keys out of my pocket sometime on Sunday evening on the train out here. Hopefully SBB will have found my keys, but maybe not

Why were my spare keys in the boot you may ask with a degree of common sense...Id packed up moving from one appt to another so the keys with the car paperwork were all packed away in the boot waiting for me to get back here and just drive across.

So er, *please* somebody tell me they know a quick and easy way for moronic aholes to get into their boot without a key?

Smashing one of the light clusters is about the only way I can think of and then try to fish them out.

Is there an internal boot release mechanism in the normal cockpit?

Oh so the keys are locked in the boot but the rest of the car is open?? In that case you can press the door unlock button on the centre of the dash and that will unlock the boot and allow you to open with the external release button. Unless it's been deadlocked with a key at some stage in which case, no.

I did this in mt C43 saloon.

To cut a very long and boring story short a very resourceful guy from the AA with some home made tools (welding rods/magnets/tiny LEDs') removed the parcel shelf and got to the key (eventually).

Other than that smashing the light cluster?

Nope, thats locked aswell, but the TCS guys (Swiss AA) will soon jimmy their way into the car!

To the right of the hazard light switch beneath the radio, it has an outline of a door on it with a key in the middle from memory.

The parcel shelf that lifts to allow the roof to fold, can you lift, move cajole that to see where and fish the keys out?

Needed to resync the battery and the central locking button you mentioned Fink. Just getting the car open and pressing it didnt work as the car was effectively "broken into". Fortunately the chap sussed that just as I saw it written in the User Manual. Boot popped open . Yay
