Just a brief one, my aunt fancies a merc a class, i will looking at a few over the next week or two.
Budget is £5k and it must be an automatic.
Other then the usual things are there any known faults or areas of concerns that I need to check for?
Cheers in advance

Can also recommend the A-Class, we ran an 07 for a few years and it was a very dependable and pleasant car. Its only the pre-05 first generation A-Class with issues.
Having said that I don't think the CVT Auto gearbox is a good match for the 150 petrol. That engine works OK with the manaul gearbox and has just enough power but the Auto 'box would make it slow as well as worsening the mpg. 180 Diesel a better bet.

Give it a test drive and see what you think, but that isn't the optimal engine/ gearbox combo IMO.
In regard to things to look out for, some of the 54/05/55/06 plate cars suffer from minor rust issues so it would be best to get a newer one. There is a thread on one of the Mercedes forums with more details if you do a search. Also make sure the AC blows cool air and watch out for any suspicious noises from the suspension. The engines last well if maintained correctly and as its chain driven no cambelt changes needed.
