I picked up a new C63 a month or so ago. Now the weather has become a bit more 'V8 friendly' I have been able to get some miles under its wheels and I have been able to start to form some proper impressions of the car. So...
What's good:-
That exhaust. It is phenomenal.It's not just the general sound (it's worth buying the car for that alone), but the other tricks it plays. I love the 'blipping' feature on downshifts - (the sound is particularly good from 5th to 4th for some reason). Difficult to put into words, but Brraap!! is about as close as it gets. More menacing is the sound on the overrun - the first time it happened I thought it was distant rolling thunder...
The gearbox. Better than I thought after trying two older models on test before I ordered.Much quicker and responsive than in the older models. As a diehard manual gearbox devotee, I had wondered how I would get on with it, but it is fine. The ratios are a bit unevenly spaced - 1st/2nd/3rd seem to be very short and 7th is obviously just a cruising gear, but there is so much torque that you can rely on 4th and 5th on fast A roads most of the time. However, it's a bit jerky on take off in 1st, so getting that right is going to take a bit of practice. There's a bit more 'whump' when changing gears than I would expect on some occasions, but most of the time it's pretty smooth.
The ride.I debated at length about the choice of wheels. Went for 19'' in the end, which I wasn't sure about as I thought it might ruin the ride. I am pleased to say it's fine. Firm, without a doubt, but not at all uncomfortable.
The handling. I didn't go for the LSD, but it's great anyway. Feels more secure than you might think and I'm sure I've gone nowehere near its limits...
The interior. I bought it for the driving experience but this is top notch. It just feels 'right' - from the seating position to the materials through to the general ergonomics. I looked at BMs before ordering and they just weren't in the same league.
Not so good:-
The MPG (obviously!) - averaged 18 mpg so far. Whether this will improve as the engine beds in only time will tell
Road noise - It came fitted with Yokohamas, while I expected Continentals. There is quite a lot of road noise (although the V8 does help to drown it out). Whether this is the make of tyre or a consequence of the lower profile rubber on 19" wheels I'm not sure.
All in all it's a fantastic package. For all of those conidering buying one I would say just go for it - they won't be making 6.2 V8s for ever...

I'm really struggling at the moment. I'm being torn from an 08 pp saloon, to a 10 plate base model (no pp) and now a new one.
All around £700 per month but obviously a balloon on the new one?
I just want the engine, the rest of the decisions are just confusing me!

I've never bought new before so thought long and hard about buying options, but went for new in the end as I think the latest models are better - the interior plastics are superior quality and I think the gearbox has improved. Obviously depreciation is an issue, but I am hoping to make this a keeper so in the long run it won't be such an issue.

Yeah, seen that one. Im 100% sure there are brokers out there offering better. Only got to look at the next gen E63 to see whats doable.

I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but I have just ordered a C63 coupe. I have wavered for the last 6 months or so and been looking for a good pre owned one, but decided to spec up a new one exactly as I wanted, rather than compromise. I am also hoping this will be a keeper and will know the delivery date in the next few days. Dealer says could be 4 to 6 months.
It is initially all about the noise, but the rest of the car is also so damn good, I can hardly wait.
Is there a choice of tyres, and if so anyone enlighten me. I guess it's something C63 owners know about in view of the wear rate on the rears especially.

I've ordered one in December due for mid to late April delivery and the wait is unbearable. Obsidian Black with black interior and 19" wheels. Gone for a two year contract hire that makes the £6k deposit and £600 a month deal look mean. Thank you to the OP, his experience is exactly what I wanted to hear especially as I haven't ordered LSD or PPP.

2013 plated 63, collect on Thursday. Can't wait she's a beauty :-) the new MCT box is great, even the paddles are worth using now great fun, and with popping on over run wow, hooked !!
Kev, I wasn't referring to your car as base spec it was one in Skipton. I know yours is a great spec, just a bit heavy on the price with no dealer facilities for me.

White, black 19's, Harman, all the usual extras on the new model.
The 'dial' did it for me, the non pp earlier wasn't quite enough for me but the new model without was so impressive I couldn't see the need.
Should be in it this weekend, can't wait.
