W124 - dash/speedo illumination woks intermittently.

I have a 1991 W124 and have noticed recently the lighting in the heater panel and the speedo sometimes doesn't work.

Any ideas as to what the fault might be? When it first went I assumed it was a fuse but then it started working again.

It will probably be the rheostat for dash light brightness playing up. Try changing the setting as it could just have a dodgy spot.

As above. If that doesn't work, you'll need to change or re-solder the rheostat, very easily done, pull the cluster, two screws.

Adjusting the position of the switch seems to have cured the problem.
