C 220 CDI Service Costs....

My 2012 C Class Estate is due it's first service very soon and as it it a lease from MB I will need to have it serviced by a dealer.

Has only done 11,000 miles and presume that it will need an oil change and a fluid level check. Nothing particularly time consuming.

MB have just quoted £250 which seems a lot for an hours work!

Allowing £50 for oil etc, that's a huge labour charge....

Anybody had any luck in negotiating on this cost?

Have you tried phoning a couple of other dealers to see whether competitive; make sure that they aren't in the same group as otherwise I suspect you'll get the same answer.

Price quoted probably isn't out of the ordinary. Some will allow you to supply your own oil, and discount accordingly, providing it meets the correct spec. and is approved (as opposed to 'meets or exceeds the specification of'), which I guess would be 229.51 for yours. They might allow closer to £100 discount if you do that.

If you're in North Yorks as per your profile, MB Skipton will do the first service for £200.. Ask for Dave the service manager and tell him Mike the ex parts lad told you he'd do a deal..

£250 is about the going rate. You might be able to get it cheaper by ringing around, but is it is worth the time and effort to save £50? These posts tickle me a bit: it's not like it's a lot of money in the context of a £30k car. It's not like it's a lot of money, full stop.

Out of interest, what did you budget for servicing when you bought the car?

Skipton not particularly convenient but will bear in mind for future.

So glad my enquiry tickled you.......I am not prone to throwing money away and just because I drive a £30k vehicle doesn't suggest that I can be ripped off.

I have to work hard for my money and expect others to do so. I don't think MB can be entitled to simply invent a charge without justification!

If you don`t mind going out of the dealer network , Hyde`s of Boroughbridge look after my Mercs and will be a fraction of that cost .

Mal Hyde used to work at Mercedes Harrogate before he set up on his own .

I dare not take my 1996 C class into Harrogate any more ; not because of it`s age , but because it would be the only car not financed to the hilt ....

I don't think this is true, so long as the oil carries the spec neither Mercedes nor it's dealers can do this under EU Block Exemption rules.
