Mercedes newbie which c class and pcp v lease

Hi guys,

Currently considering a c class of some description but a little confused with all the models.

I am definitely going for diesel and am looking at saloons and estates.

I have seen leasing deals (personal rate) for around £260-£270 per month with a 3/23 profile. Am I likely to be able t get a pcp deal close ish to that?

Any recommendations for dealers/lease companies for good deals?

Watch out as some unscrupulous lease companies do not include VAT in their prices.

I got my C220 estate just over a year ago and I pay about £320 per month on 3/47 terms.
Granted mine is a lower spec SE but I chose it because of the engine. Regularly get 50+MPG and it pulls well.

I'd tell you who I got it from but then this thread might get locked as PH seems to have an issue with a certain chinese woman who leases cars from Gateshead. Google is your friend...

I faced the exact same decision back in November last year after I had sold my then BMW. I did a lot of research and in the end I had pretty much decided on a Merc C-class estate on a PCP as they are exceptionally good value at the moment - probably the fact that the new C is just around the corner has something to do with it. Coming from a 120d I was pretty much set on a six-pot diesel this time round, for added refinement. My local dealership let me have a go in a C220 CDI as well as a C250 CDI though, and I pretty much made my mind up on the spot. The C220 CDI is very very good but I thought I'd stretch to the C250 CDI as I do like a bit of extra welly. In hindsight it's probably a good job I didn't try the C350 CDI as I know I wouldn't have been able to resist opting for one of those instead

So my advice is do lots of research and find quotes online. Once armoured and clued up, bring all this information to your dealership and have a conversation with a sales rep. They can usually match whatever quote you put under their nose. I actually brought in my iPad and showed him this:

He was very accommodating and actually thanked me for being up front with my expectations - I imagine they get a lot of time wasters so that is understandable. He matched the online price after going back to his boss a few times.

If you are looking at a car around the £30k-mark, as a rule of thumb you can probably expect monthly payments of around £320 with £5k down. The Sport Plus trim suited my needs to a tee - the only real must have on my list was Xenons and they come a standard. The only option I went for is the 'auto box and I have recently added a Becker Map Pilot unit too and it is even better than I had hoped for. Overall I'm very pleased with the car and can see myself keeping it for many years to come.

I tried the get my local dealer to match the price I had from the 'Chinese Lady' and he couldn't get anywhere near it. Granted I wanted a lease and not a PCP. I cheekily asked for a test drive and he happily obliged though.

Now using the same dealer for servicing.
