CLK 200 D2B nightmare

In 2008 I bought a 2003 MB CLK200 in Germany, and imported it to Oulu, Northern Finland. It was a good deal because the vehicle was in a clearly better than average condition (e.g. engine), and also had my favorite color (donnerblau).
A CLK is, however, a rare vehicle up here, one degree below the Arctic Circle. Consequently, whenever one runs into complicated trouble, such as with the Comand 2.0 unit, one cannot expect much support from the local MB dealer and repair shops. They do not know what to do, even though the MB dealer certainly would like to study the issue for a day or two, for a hefty charge, or replace the whole unit for EUR 5.500 just in case this might solve the problem...
Two months ago it happened: The monitor of my Comand suddenly went dark and had to be mailed for service in a specialist shop. After an expensive repair, I still was unable to see the navi etc. in daytime light, with maximum resolution, even though the information showed reasonably well at night. The shop did another repair for free to compensate their failure.
The results of the second run have, however, yet to be tested. Why? Because during the process I also lost my phone and cd-box (MB originals)! According to a Bosch tester, they are both linked with the Comand by a D2B optic fibre cable. The cable does, however, not recognize their presence anymore. Whether this is a software or a hardware problem, I have no idea. Neither does the repair shop. Everything else worked fine after the first remounting of the Comand (to test the monitor). Until I know more, there is not much sense in installing the Comand again.
Clearly, I am in a serious need of advice from more experienced MB owners. Otherwise I will just keep on standing there with the Comand 2.0 in my hands, clueless and unable to decide how to proceed. I have already been doing that for a while.
Please, let me know if it is likely to be a soft or hardware problem? In the first case, what would be the way to reset the lost configuration? In the second case, what could have been the problem? If more information is needed to draw the conclusions, I'd be more than happy to provide it!

The problem may lay with one of the other units(cd/tele/tv etc) in the optical ring. The optical ring must run through all components configured in the master(command) for the functions to work. If one unit in the optical ring malfunctions then all other units will also stop working. The navi should still work as it is part of the comand unit. You need a star diagnosis unit to test the optical ring and also check the configuration in the command unit for units connected.
