A Class, good or not ???

The newer W169 2005 - 2012 version is good. We ran one for a few years and had no problems with it. Very practical, spacious and well built. Just like a small German car should be.
The older W168 1998 - 2005 on the other hand is not recommended as they have a number of major reliability problems and suffer from build quality issues. As you pointed out it was this one that tipped over!
The latest W176 2013 onwards is as yet unproven. Its less practical than its predecessors and the smallest engine is Renault sourced, but looks very nice on the outside!

Thanks for the info, budget is between £2 & £3K. Will try and steer inquirer towards VW/Audi. We've had ours A200cdi for nearly four years now. Its a very good car easy 50mpg on a run 40s around town. But due to rust its had all four doors a tailgate and all four wheel arches replaced under merc warranty, must have cost them a few grand so far, more bubbles have appeared on wheel arch Id buy another tomorrow though.
