Merc 190 alloys question.

I have a W124 Coupe that could do with the wheels tidying up. I could get them refurbed but quite like the look of these.



They're quite similar to what's on the car at present but I think they look better.

Can anyone tell me if they would fit the W124 and what sizes they were available in?

Yes, these will fit your 124- they were standard alloys on the earlier/mid run 124's before the 8-hole. They're 15" 6.5/7J ET44, 15-hole 'flat face'... I *think* there were 16" versions too. I had them on my '92 300E -quite easy to source on ebay and from breakers etc.

I'm pretty sure the wheels on an Evo I 190E as pictured are 16 inch diameter. Very similar ones were fitted to the R129 SLs and are a popular retrofitment to non-Evo 190Es (I presume the Evo wheels are lightweight forged items; those from the R129 are not) - the R129 wheels are the ones you need to hunt out.

Basically everything fitted to W124s had a 15 inch diameter (except the 500E).

Cheers for the replies, much appreciated. I think the 16 in wheels are the way to go as the ones on there do look quite small.

The 15", 15-hole wheel came in two styles - one for the 190E and the other for the W124. They are difficult to tell apart unless you have them side-by-side but one has oval holes and the other rectangular holes with rounded-off corners

They both fit the W124

Early 124s came with the oval hole wheels (upper picture), too, albeit with a different offset to those on the 201 (likewise the 126 and 107). The oval hole wheels are forged; the rectangular hole wheels (lower picture) are cast. The 190E Evo pictured in the original post wears 16" wheels very similar to those supplied as standard on early 129s. These latter wheels will not fit correctly on a 124 (apart from the 500 E) because of the funny offset. The wheels fitted to 124s and 201s are not the same size, either; again they have a different offset, but received wisdom is that the difference is so slight as not to make them interchangeable in practice. Beware that wheels from a 201 will have a tyre which is not the correct size for a 124. All very confusing, I'm sure. This is a useful link: http://www.mercedeswheels.net

Hi, I used to own a 190 Sport Evolution with these wheels. The correct wheels to look for are 500SL R129 16" wheels. I very much doubt you'll ever find them listed as Evo I wheels.
