I am tempted by one of these... Do I need to buy some brave pills? anyone comment on reliability and what to look for before parting with my cash?

Do these suffer corrosion like the early cars?

I have only just bought one, so can not comment, and this is my first Mercedes.

There is a 10 year Mercedes rust warranty (as long as it has always been serviced by Mercedes)
On mine checked boot seal (spare wheel well), windscreen pillars, and rear wheel arch.

Do check that the heated seats work. Apparently it is common whilst cleaning car for people to put a knee on seat, to clean rear window and shelf, and this can damage heating element, which is expensive.

I bought a car registered before 23march2006 for cheaper road fund licence, saving (at present) £210 each year of ownership. Which was important to me, especially as car gets older.

Everyone wants the 'air scarf' option

Rocker cover gaskets, appear to need to be replaced on occasions.

Lots of information on http://www.slkworld.com/forumindex.php

Hope this helps, or points you in right direction.
(very happy with mine)

We have a Kleeman modified one running 600 brake on standard internals ( apart from the cams )......this is the 2nd one we've had, they have both been driven hard and have both been more reliable than they have any right to be.

I wouldn't worry too much about the mechanicals!

Yes, its a very rare colour, I have not seen another for sale. I looked at blue, black, but discounted silver.

I would have gone for the black if this one hadn't come up...

buzzer, that colour is stunning on the SLK55. Never seen one in that red.

You have the same alloys as me which are a joy to wash, much better than the turbine style wheels.

Buzzer, www.slkworld.com is a good forum to look at. They also have meetings now and again if you're interested.
