Afternoon all. I am considering deleting the rear exhaust boxes on my ML and replacing with a straight through stainless steel pipe. I did this on a Holden I had many years ago and it gave a nice burble on tickover without being intrusive (ie drone) in the cabin. I have in the past removed a centre box from an XJR and it was not successful at all, very unpleasant. Does anyone have any direct experience on their own car? Thanks in advance.

I had a resonator delete done on my E63 about two months ago. It is, without question, the best modification I have ever had for any of my cars or bikes ever. And it only cost me $300. I drove around with all my windows down for about two weeks straight, grinning like an idiot.

You will not regret it.

I have an AMG stainless exhaust on my SL and that has back box delete. It sounds lovely! Really deep and V8ish, rising to an awesome bass rumble/roar as the revs rise.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Just to be clear, it's purely the rear boxes just before the tail pipes that I am considering removing, as opposed to the centre boxes. I'm hoping there will be no droning in the cabin if I do this. If my wife comments that the car sounds a little bit louder than normal, it will be a good job done. If she asks me what the hell is wrong with the car, that won't be so good! hehe

Personally, I wouldn't cut out the resonator, but each to their own

I just did the rear boxes on the Camaro and there was no drone at all but made a big difference to the sound
That was exhaust my experience with the Holden V8. A lot of people seem to delete the centre box and report good results, but the drone it created in the Jaguar ruined the car.
