Hi,

I've had my car for a good few months now which I bought in the knowledge that it needed a few things addressing to make perfect. With work and other commitments I've not really got chance to sort anything yet. The main problem with the car, which is now beginning to bug me is an intermittent misfire thats throwing up the orange engine diagnostic light every now and again. It seems that on certain occasions when using the wipers (at a stand still this is more noticeable) the car misfires as the wipers are engaged and everytime they wipe across the screen the idle droops and the car shudders slightly. This isn't always the case though its just every now and again. I have had the car on a friend mechanics generic snap-on diagnostic unit when I bought it. This at the time was throwing up an injector no.3 fault, but there was also something else it said to which I now cant remember but as I wasn't really in a position to have the job done for various reasons I thought I'd leave it and sort it at a later date as I don't tend to use the car all that much.

Has anybody had a similar issue or could point me in the direction of what could be at fault with the symptoms I've described. As I've said this is really beginning to get annoying now, as the car drives great apart from this. It doesn't however affect the performance in anyway or put the car into a limp mode or anything like that. The car is "53" plate CLK 55 AMG w209, any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Not heard of that one. Could it be battery or alternator related? Put your high beam on instead at idle and stationary and see if the current draw causes the same problem.

Yes its definitely weird, no idle droop on anything else but the wipers. Sometimes you'll just feel the misfire and then on other occasions it will throw up the engine light too. Help please its driving me mad!

Do the wipers share the ground point with anything like ecu's etc.

Hmm, I wouldn't really know about the ground points, how would i find out?... Had it round to the local BMW / Merc specialist for literally a 5 minute check over as they are always really busy so you have to book weeks in advance.they said it could be a fault in the loom! Anything electrical tends to mean £££'s though in searching for the cause!
