E350 Servicing Advice

We're due a B2 major service on our 2011 E350 CDI (22,000 miles), having called a dealer who insisted it needs brake fluid changing as well the quote is £356 including a £20 discount for not using a courtesy car.

I've also contacted an independent who is only a tenner cheaper for the service but including the brake fluid it comes to £300 using genuine parts.

Does this sound about right? Are Genuine MB service parts that expensive? - using non-genuine parts I've had a quote of £99 for the service from a 3rd garage....but obviously that affects the warranty.

Just trying to make sure we don't overpay that's all.

For 50 squid I'd stick to main dealer myself. Have you tried a different main dealer and played them against each other?

Hi brake fluid requires changing every two years

You could supply your own oil this will make the price cheaper.

The parts themselves aren't expensive at all, an oil filter will be circa £11, similar for a litre of brake fluid (+VAT), it's the oil that bumps up the price. Your car will need 9 litres, and if you've got a particulate filter it requires fully synthetic, low ash oil which costs anywhere from £15 to as much as £18 a litre depending on the dealership; there's £135 before you look at anything else. All told, the prices from the dealer & the independent aren't particularly wide of the mark.

I wouldn't recommend anywhere that quoted £99 for the full job.

Thanks chaps, as long as the price sounds fair then that's good enough for me.

I will try another dealer - although Sytner run both the 2 nearest dealerships to me....
