Facelift C220CDI Estate - Known issues?
Discussion
Hi all,
I am looking at getting a facelift C220CDI Estate and I was wondering if there were any known issues with them to look out for or if there are any extras that you would say are necessary?
Also what is the Becker Satnav system like? Is it worth going up to the Command system?
Thanks.

If you go for leather make sure it's got the heated seats option too - mine didn't have and in winter I really missed them.
I had COMAND, I personally love the system and used the DVD player option all the time when waiting outside the missus' work each night so for that reason would go for it again! My brother in law had the Becker and didn't rate it and wished he'd gone for COMAND.
I thought the engine wash quite harsh and noisy and as the above poster has said I experienced the rattle dash and vibration, one of the main things that put me off it eventually actually.
In terms of reliability I only had mine for 6 months but in that time nothing broke, fell off, became worn or let me down.

check front springs for cracks and breaks at the base , not at all uncommon to find them broken and still sat in there.
Check rear wash wipe works as the corrode internally and seize the motor.
check glow plug light comes on, goes out and does not come on again.
Ensure correct low ash spec oil is used when servicing.
great cars though

Re the creaking, I get a bit of that too but it's not too invasive.
Theres a plastic trim panel in the lower part of the centre console that can move with respect to the rest of it. When cold it can creak as the car twists. Cars in Sport (2011-2012) or the replacement AMG Sport Plus (2012 on) trims on 18s will likely exacerbate the issue.
Probably fairly easily solved with a bit of judicious packing/dry lube, but poor show from M-B for letting themselves down with such a silly little thing in an otherwise solid and beautifully finished interior.
As I said, it doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it as it isn't really that noisy and goes away once in a few minutes once the interior has warmed up a bit.
Other than that I've no issues after 15k miles in my 2012 car, other than the MPG quoted by M-B being hopelessly optimistic.
Figure on getting about 40-ish MPG if you're reasonably careful. I live in a hilly area and often drive like a tosser
so the computer is reporting about 38.5MPG average - about 5 less than I was expecting and 20MPG (!) less than the combined EU cycle figure published by Mercedes.
Becker satnav is great, Comand seems like overkill when the Audio 20 + Becker works so well.

Kinda retrograde step considering that the dash on my 13 year old 110k mile Merc is silent.Theres a plastic trim panel in the lower part of the centre console that can move with respect to the rest of it. Regarding the centre dash creaking and rattling.....my 2012 C220 Sport Estate developed this.....in the panel that carries the push button switches.
Mentioned to MB garage at first service and they fixed it without question. A known issue to them and they applied a little packing...
Now, problem resolved and perfectly quiet dash.
Great car and no complaints except for traction in snow but what do you expect on such low profile and wide tyres....
Winter tyres to be considered next year.
Friend who has same car but on 17 inch wheels complains the same about traction in winter so not just limited to the 18 inch option.
Hard to know what to replace this car with as it ticks every box so very well.
