SLS values & future residuals
Discussion
I'm seriously considering changing my R8 v10 for a SLS coupe.
I had a test drive in one yesterday and was not disappointed - it was everything I hoped it would be and more, amazing cars!
The dealer valued my car and offered a cost to change of £55k for a cash deal.
The dealer’s car was a 2011 with 10k and missing all the crucial options I would like.
If I value my car and the SLS on WBAC the difference is £30k, which is around what I was hoping it would be and would cement the deal.
So what’s going on here - how can there be so much disparity?
My ideal SLS would be silver/black, 10 spoke lightweight wheels, carbon brakes, carbon interior and B&O, 2010 with <10k miles.
I was hoping that in the current market I might be able to get such a car for around £100k.
For anyone that has recently been in the market to buy or sell an SLS, what is the current trade value and how much are dealers moving on sticker?
How much further do you think the SLS coupe might fall over the next two/three years?
Being as Mercedes are going to stop making it soon and replace it with the SLC (no gullwing doors) I was wondering if this might ultimately help residuals and the original SLS might start to become quite sought after?

Why not sell it to WBAC and do the deal? Trader doesn't want your R8 so has given low offer / high cost to change.
If I sold to WBAC, with their lowball offer, the balance to purchase the SLS is out of my budget and I don't want to finance any of the difference if I can avoid it.What I can't get my head around is the trade uses the WBAC valuation for my car, yet when it comes to valuing theirs, the WBAC price seems to go out of the window, unless they've got huge spreads over them.
Of course they have. It's called running a business. They do have overheads you know. I still don't understand your answer to the previous poster's question. Are you seriously expecting a car sales business to conduct a transaction along the lines of taking both WBAC valuations and allowing you to just pay the difference, while they pay for prep, warranty, staff, buildings etc etc?

I recently sold my SLS through a Mercedes-Benz main dealer, I don’t think you’ll get a car with the options you want for £100K – I certainly would not have accepted an offer that low on my car. I think £110K – £115K is closer to the mark. Book prices are one thing, a price an owner will accept is another…
You could buy privately at that price perhaps, but then you may lack the security of a new dealer backed warranty (and the dealer arranged finance facilities) that many buyers in your position may want.
If you can make the jump to an SLS then do – you won’t regret it, they are fantastic.

i think there is a chap on here that is selling a sls with the spec you want i think his name is orbator.there was a really good spec car at mb manchester that was in blk with big spec that was on for 105k which i would have thought 100k would have bought it but that 1 has sold i think it was a 10/60 with less than 10000 miles.i think palmball has just sold his im not sure what he got for it but i would think 100k would'nt be far off.spec is important carbon interior,b&o sound, multi spoke alloys are the main ones. all the best.I had a test drive in one yesterday and was not disappointed - it was everything I hoped it would be and more, amazing cars!

I fully appreciate they are running a business but a spread of £37k (difference between WBAC valuation and sticker price) must cover a lot of overheads.

Thanks amg master – I’m in no hurry and I’ll wait for the right car to come along that’s within budget. I feel that they’ve still got a lot of depreciating to do so I don’t want to pay over the odds.Ballistic said:

Call round 20 Audi dealers and ask for their buyers mobile number, ask for them to underwrite your car and see what the best offer is, then go and find an SLS for the £30k you want to pay.
May take a morning but you should get there.

This sounds a good idea, but being realistic I now can't see anyone bidding more than £55k which would then mean trying to find a decent SLS for £85k which don't seem to exist, unless you know something that I don't.
I'm negotiating on one at the moment, from a MB dealer, who are now asking more for it than it sold for 5 months ago, claiming they had to pay strong money for it.
