W 124 with V8 from W 126 or C126

Hi , have a daydream about owning a legendary Hammer. But price is impossible to bear.
How difficult would be to convert a nice W124 to fit big v8 from larger sister w/c126 .
I think that most of parts would be adaptable ,suspension improved ,Ecu transplanted.
Or I'm I completely wrong. If its possible ,what a projected cost and whom to trust to carry out conversion . I live in west London. Thanks in advance for your help.

They do make a 500E, and others have made V12's as well.

Sure but they go for at least £15k . My idea was 1K for nice E260 plus 1K for 500 SEC.Then was hoping to spend 2-3K making E500.

AFAIK, the reason why the 500E/E500 is LHD only is that the V8 interferes with the steering column or brakes in RHD. You would be looking at substantial cost to get round this, so I would advise further research. There are a few people who do MB V8 conversions, one in Yorkshire and one in Cornwall, I can't remember the names offhand though.

My current project involves putting the m120 v12 from a w140 s600 into a w124.
The only way we could get it in was to do away with the steering box and fit a rack.
Wasn't any other issues to speak of otherwise, the bulkhead need a bit of "massaging" but nothing much....

sounds great ,if only I know bit more about mechanics.Sadly I have no skills or access to workshop so have to rely on outsourcing .Budged wise are we looking at huge cost?

Or on the other hand any recommendations about fun car with v8 in it. Currently I'm running a '87 560 SEC.It's very insurance friendly ,fairly quick and quite reliable. Would like to change to ....
I thought about XJR V8 or Bmw 540 .Or a fast merc but not those very modern ones as to much to go wrong and up keeping cost arm and leg ( sorry but no jackpot won yet).Is that achievable to have spare affordable car which does nice doughnuts ,strong in line acceleration and some basic drifting while staying road legal and insurance friendly?Sounds like almost impossible.Or should just add NOS to SEC.

Marrocco is the name of the chap doing it in Scarbrough. He's done quite a few 123s and I believe is working on the 124.

Don't forget the w124 was also made with the 420 engine, bit of a sleeper as it's no different from the lesser cars from the outside.Search here 400E and E420 and go to Germany to collect,simples!

I am at the moment working on putting the 5.0 litre into a 190. It would make the ultimate Mercedes Q car, and is actually quite viable. The multi link suspension and neat weight and size in the 190 gives you acceptable handling.

I would do the conversion for you OP, but we would seriously have to look at how to fund it. I have had my fingers very badly burnt doing things like this before!

Blimey there's loads of E500's on there as well, how easy is it to import and register one in the UK?

Thanks for offer.Realistically what cost we are looking at?I thought that it would be like best to buy a ready converted or agreeing a fee and leave you with sourcing necessary parts ( car perhaps) ..
