Looking at buying a E320 CDI Estate

On my budget, probably a 2004 53,04,54 reg
Is there anything i should be extra carefull about, other than ensuring it has a proper full service history.
Any expensive common failures i need to look out for ?
Or if anyone knows of a good one coming up.
I went to look at a "good" one yesterday that was badly sprayed down one side and it's full service history had a 3 year 50k mile gap....

I went to look at a "good" one yesterday that was badly sprayed down one side and it's full service history had a 3 year 50k mile gap....
air suspension has cost me about £1200 in five years and that includes £700 on rear shock absorbers that had given up the ghost, apart from that bits have worn out but then I have done 110,000 miles in that time. Now on 163,000 and no thoughts of selling for years. Nothing is planned to be replaced apart from consumables of disks and pads.
Google SBS braking system.
Regular "failure" which Merc were, until recently replacing foc under a goodwill scheme although now hearing stories that they are refusing in some cases leaving owners with a large bill.
Valve bodies in auto boxes can fail and research the Valeo rad/gearbox issue where coolant gets into the gearbox and effectively wrecks it if not dealt with.
If budget allows get a post facelift - they do seem to be better built and more reliable plus no SBS.
My facelift has been faultless and a cousin of mine is a chauffeur and ran his facelift E220 CDi to mega miles without issue.

My budget is only around £5k so i imagine i'm looking at cars with 130-140k miles. I guess it is possible to find a car with these issues already sorted by now. I would need to carefully check through the paper work.
The coolant into the Gearbox, is that something you can check for? Not being familiar with these cars.
