MERCEDES 300TD 1999 avantgarde estate

Hi, just got a 1999 mercedes TD avantgarde estate with a bit of high mileage but in fairly good condition. There seems to be a loss of power with the kickdown especially over 40 mph; I dare not try overtaking as the power seems to diminish on acceleration? or struggles at particular point in rev gauge ( i.e. 30)but normal driving without kickdown seems OK... any suggestions to the remedy on how to fix this?, thanks.

Sounds like the MAF, typical symptoms.
Unplug it and see what happens with it unplugged.
