S204 mis registered - or is it?
Discussion
Last month I bought a lovely, low miles, one owner , 59 plate S204 C350 CDi (not a blue efficiency). I initially thought it was a 320 and that is what I went to look at. When I test drove it I noted it had a c350 badge on the back. The dealer and I (jag dealer who had taken it in against a new XF) both thought maybe it was just a case of older chaps doing the strangest things and misbadging it.
Happy with the car (its great) but not the misbadging I popped to my local MB to get hold of a 320 badge or even just the 2. I didn't have the car at this point but checking the reg number on their system the parts chaps confirmed that it was a 350. It was listed as such on the database and apparently the engine number confirms it as being the later 350 rather than the 320. I thought that the 350 and 320 had the same lump and the renaming was just cosmetic and part of some tinkering with such things across the whole MB range.
When I actually got the car, flicking through the manual as you do, in e the tech specs amongst the engine data it only lists the 350 amongst the other engines available in the S204. No sign of the 320. As the car is late November 2009 I believe they had changed over to the 350 by then.
So, if you look the car up on one of those car data check things it comes up as a 320, probably why the dealer had it advertised as such and now I have the V5 it is listed there as a 320.
So, what can I do (if anything)? While I appreciate the 320 and 350 are basically the same I'd prefer to have things correct on the documents - if nothing else, heaven forbid, in case I ever have to have a row with an insurance company about what it is.
Any ideas? The car thinks its a 350 (manual and badge), MB think its a 350, the DVLA do not. I can only presume that when it was registered someone got something slightly wrong, probably as they'd just changed over to being 350s.
