C63 Estate spec
Discussion
Morning All,
Will probably/hopefully be ordering a C63 estate this weekend but not 100% sure on the options so any advice would be gratefully received, particularly from people with experience of these options:
1.AMG Performance Package
30 hp (22 kW) power upgrade to 487 hp (358 kW)
Forged pistons, newly-developed connecting rods and revised crankshaft Intake manifold painted Titanium Grey
AMG carbon-fibre boot lid spoiler (Saloon only)
AMG brake calipers painted in red
AMG Performance steering wheel trimmed in nappa leather/Alcantara
All for £4680 - is it worth it? from searching the forum it looks a though some people swear by the older PP Plus with the LSD but not sure about this one
2.AMG Driver’s Package
Increase to the electronically limited top speed (175 mph) Attendance at an AMG ‘Power & Passionʼ driving event
£2325 - seems quite a lot to increase the top speed!
3.AMG rear axle limited-slip differential lock - £1745 - will hopefully do the odd track day here and there but, like most people I will be on a public road 99% of the time!
4.Reversing camera - £390 - is it just a gimmick? I have driven/used a reversing camera in a big US SUV which was helpful but it may not be necessary in this car
5.Keyless-Go - £930 - seems a lot to not go through the complicated experience of putting the key in the ignition - but maybe I'm missing something!
6. AMG Performance Media - £2040 - lots of nice data on the screen but not sure how much it would be used in practice
7.COMAND Online system with integrated 6-disc changer £250 - anyone used the online system? good? bad?
8. DAB radio - £335 - probably a good idea to 'future proof'
9.Surround sound system – Harman Kardon Logic 7
12 high-performance speakers and additional amplifier - £650 - having read about the crap standard speakers this looks to be a must
10.Luxury automatic climate control (three-zone)
With dust and charcoal filters, rear digital display, separately controlled air supply for driver/front passenger and rear compartment, solar and air quality sensors - £590 - is it much better than the standard system? I don't think the kids would be dehydrating in the back without it!
The car will be fire opal with the black 19 inch AMG alloys
Cheers
Jon

Hi,
The Performance Pack is no longer available. You have the choice of standard or 507 only. If you are being told that you can order the PP, I would query that - it doesn't even show in the latest price guides for the C63 which validates that is is no longer available.
Or if it is still available, thats really interesting to know.

Can anyone give any feedback on how the standard C63 Audio system compares to the option HK system? Is it really £650 better? I would really appreciate the feedback. I have not ticked this option, but have a week to decide before it's too late.
Does the standard or HK system have a subwoofer?

For the love of Mike do not get the standard speakers they are terrible. I am about to spend between £500 and £1000 just to get the fronts done. Yes the HK system has a sub. I should point out I don't have the HK system but it seems like a good idea next to aftermarket add-ons.Does the standard or HK system have a subwoofer?
PM me your email and I will send you the latest PDFs I have with standard C63 and 507 pricing and specs.
I knew about this because in May I went to order a PP Coupe, all ready to pull the trigger then got told no more PP, so I went for a 507 instead - ordered in May.
Regarding HK, if I could only have one option, it would be HK - its a good base option to have in the car and it sounds pretty good.

Hi,
My personal opinion (and of course "worth it" is subjective...)
1.AMG Performance Package - Definite YES!
2.AMG Driver’s Package - Don't bother
3.AMG rear axle limited-slip differential lock - Definite yes
4.Reversing camera - Don't bother
5.Keyless-Go - Massively overpriced waste of time. I like turning a key
6. AMG Performance Media - A pricey gimmick which you'll probably use once and then forget about. Don't bother.
7.COMAND Online system with integrated 6-disc changer - COMAND online is standard (although I've never used it). Don't bother with 6-disc CD changer, you can rip everything to the internal hard drive from your favourite CDs.
8. DAB radio - I wouldn't bother, standard radio is fine.
9.Surround sound system – Harman Kardon - YES YES YES!
10.Luxury automatic climate control (three-zone) - Don't bother. Standard system is excellent.

Defo go for reversing camera, very handy. Also H.K. sound upgrade. Ask for DAB radio for free as its standard in the coupe so why do they charge for saloon/ estate? I did and got it for free. Dab is great where i live so love having it. I went for 6 cd changer as was used to it in my C55. Probably a mistake as now got usb music files etc but it plays videos so if your waiting around its something to watch! I wondered about LSD as well. If you are going to track it and generally drive everywhere at full pelt then yes. If not don't bother. I am on my 3rd AMG and not had it. Standard power is more than enough but if i had the money i would go for the performance package. Also the carbon fibre exterior package looks great. Got that for vat free

I would love to understand the debate over going for the LSD or not in more detail. It seems that from this thread the majority of comments support having one yet when I talk to various MB dealers they all seem to be of the opinion that unless you're going to track the car fairly often it's an added expense which is not necessary. They also seem to suggest that it will add no value to the car on resale.
I bought my first ever AMG (C63 estate) last Sept, without the LSD and after 6000 miles haven't thought "I wish I'd gone for it". I did test drive one at MB World which I think may have had an LSD and tbh I don't think (especially on that track) that it made any real difference. As said on another thread the biggest limiting factor was the delayed downshift which was particularly noticable coming into the right hander at the end of the straight. Still fantastic fun though and a minor negative in what is otherwise an awesome beast and puts a smile on my face every time I start the engine.
Further thoughts appreciated. Cheers

I've got a 62 plate Estate and having previously had a 2008 saloon I have found the improvement is pretty good
1.AMG Performance Package - You can get DMS to tune the car, I did this on my 2008 car and it was great.
2.AMG Driver’s Package - the day at the track is great but not sure the rest of it is worth it.
3.AMG rear axle limited-slip differential lock - have this on the new car but didn't on the saloon, I personally thnk the car handles better with it. The car appears to be far less skittish but I have yet to do a track day to see the full benefit.
4.Reversing camera - personally find it very helpful
5.Keyless-Go - don't have it but nice gadget I'd say.
6. AMG Performance Media - if you can afford it then its nice.
7.COMAND Online system with integrated 6-disc changer - don't really use the cd's but its handy and a good system especially with the iPod
8. DAB radio - I'd say well worth it. It's the only thing I wish the estate had, previously had it on the saloon.
9.Surround sound system – Harman Kardon 100% yes, it's very good and the sub in the boot is not intrusive at all.
10.Luxury automatic climate control (three-zone) previously had it in the saloon, waste of money as the standard system is great
What colour choice are you going for?
Wheels, 18's or 19's?
Any other questions feel free to ask

Thanks for all the advice.
Looks as though the option nowadays is either the 'standard' C63 or the Edition 507 with the AMG performance pack included (for an extra £10k)
Will see how the test drive goes tomorrow - not sure if that car has an LSD
Am keen on fire opal with the 19inch black wheels. I have both 18s and 19s for my M3 and the ride is, unsuprisingly, better on the 18s but I think the combination of red body and black wheels looks good (and at worst, just different to the 50 shades of grey they usually come in!)
Cheers

Despite going for an RS4 instead, simply because the mpg around London is better (marginal!) I did a lot of research on C63s and almost went for a tenorite grey estate. My personal opinion (and of course "worth it" is subjective...)

I have a M3 with 19" wheels (who doesn't?). When I test drove a PP equipped C63 Coupe at Brooklands, maybe it had the optional performance suspension because instantly I thought it was firmer than my M3. I then drove a standard coupe on 19" wheels (no PP) and I thought it was incredibly comfortable. Good luck - PS the extra 10k on 507 is not just PP - you get different wheels, black series bonnet, drivers pack etc so its not bad value when you add up all the extras.
