A Performance Diesel ???

Hi All,
I've decided to put up a build thread for the LH800R (A joint project Im currently working on) ... I’m sure many of you are sitting thinking what is it??? To get a better idea I’ll take it right back to the start of the concept.
I set out with a plan to build a car that was capable of 0-60 in less than 5 seconds to trouble the m3’s and 911’s etc from the lights , A real blast to drive, could withstand the odd track day and when the time came settle down could achieve more than 40MPG.
The weapon of choice was a 2012 C350cdi Sport, Magnetite Black with optional 18inch wheels. With 261 BHP and 457 lbft it’s a fairly good starting point.
After hunting around we sourced a very well established tuning house to work with us on the software side of things (We won’t disclose the details just yet as we are still in development). The goal is a stable 330BHP and 590lbft, Now many people jump up and down at the mystical 700nm figure with the gearboxes but don’t worry we have done the research!

Day 1 at the Dealership

After a Good Clean


We got the car out on the road to get the performance figures measured, shortly after this the ECU was removed for reading ahead of the mapping getting done

238.4 BHP and 455lbft at the wheels was pretty good for a stock car but we always knew the engines are strong out of the factory.
Mapping will be getting done on 13th of July so hold tight for the details.
So if were going to be hammering round the track at speed were going to need to stop...
Option 1 - Upgraded discs and Pads, While that may offer some improvement it wont hold off brake fade under extreme heat.
Option 2 - Full Wortec install, we know this setup works and has been fitted many times before.
Option 3 - C63 AMG setup with complete OEM parts install so no brackets to fit ETC - We picked this one in the end as its only be carried out once to our knowledge and seeing AMG brakes on a non AMG car always gets people thinking and the conversation going
Results??? Amazing braking performance upgrade over the already bigger C350 Calipers! Confidence going into the corners is 10 times better now which leads to quicker times all round.

Yes those figures are easily achievable however there are certain things that are required to be done to run it ie Gear box remap and TCS changes to name a few.
We have already achieved 750nm with Software only so over 800nm is achievable however we start verging into gearbox constraints, not barriers as such as the gearbox can be reinforced however this is where the £ signs add up!
Once we are happy with the map and have carried out extensive testing we will be offering it to the market, in the interim be weary engine only remaps as you could end up with a bag of bolts!

Interesting build project!
Mine is a facelift C300 CDI 4matic (231 bhp/540 nm), which I understand is a different engine to the facelift C350 CDI engine (265 bhp/620 nm) but still interested if you would consider developing anything for that engine.
PS: Magnetite black is a great colour

Hi Rassi,
The engine in principle is the same however they lowered the compression ratio from 17.7:1 to 15.5:1 with the use of different pistons, Turbo was also changed along with better cooling.
All in all it reaches a bit more power with better efficiency, Of course we can do a map for your car.
From previous work I would would say a safe 45-50BHP and 90-100nm is achievable before heat becomes an issue, there wont be an increase in MPG either unless your right foot likes the power

Yea of course, I've already got costs together for a fitted kit circa 6k for performance only which gives you Power, Brakes, Suspension Work and circa 8k for a full kit which adds quad exhaust, Genuine carbon fiber splitter, spoiler and defuser. All prices are fitted, tested and guaranteed.... of Course we are able to do any combination of the above 
Initial look you would think that's expensive but remember you now have a 40mpg C63 Rival for £44k vs the C63s 57k (brand new prices). It matches it for handling, brakes and performance... so worth some consideration.

Those C350CDIs are seriously quick out the box, and the torque is insane! My dad's got one and it can manage well over 50mpg! You can barely hear the engine from inside either! It's an incredible engine, and it turns the C-Class into a 50+mpg rocketship!
The facelifted C-Class looks great in Sport trim. Imposing, but still a bit of a Q-car with the right engine!
Can't wait to see the results!

Not sure you will be on par with a C63, perhaps aim a little lower?Will be an interesting result

It may produce bags of torque, but I doubt it will have the power. It would be a laugh to see me proved wrong, but the C63 is seriously fast and certainly not without torque.

Good point and for the 8k it costs you to start with how much of a depreciation hit will you take for a modded car over a std car? I'll bet it would cost you more than the 8k the conversion cost you.

Ive got a Brabus d6s.....350cdi out of the box tuned to 313hp. It drives exactly like the standard car but more, if you know what I mean....and it improves the standard car's economy and keeps the warranty.
Not sure an extra 17hp is worth the effort, especially as it will start to have a negative effect on the cars character...ie noisier, more smokey and residuals.....and you'll still get whipped by a mapped 335d never mind an m3.

Hi All,
Well were aiming for the C63 as that's what we need to equal/beat, we set the challenge and we will achieve it... no one said it would be easy as we are re writing the rule book a bit here...
Its always difficult to explain how fast a car is etc without showing you a side by side video but heres some food for thought, My friend has a new Audi RS5... I lined up behind him... he took of (No LC used) and so did I there was no difference between us at the 60mph Mark and at the 100mph mark he had only increased the lead by 10m..
Now the above was achieved with the stage one software (680nm to the rear wheels)... 800nm arrives next weekend.
In response to the queries re cost you have to remember that is not the cost of a Re Map... that is a complete change of Brakes, suspension, looks, power, exhaust etc.... so factor all that in it doesn't seem as crazy...
As for noise/smoke, we have had minimal increases in those areas due to the heavy investment in the map, I still get 50mpg on a run!
Just some thoughts, feel free to fire away if you have any additional questions.

OP did you measure the performance out of the box before tuning, so you can compare with post tuning times? A more intuitive way to benchmark your gains and the relative peformance against a C63 than dyno numbers will ever tell you imo.
If not, maybe as a reference this helps....

Suspect given the weight advantage the C350cdi stock may crack 15s to 100mph.
For further reference, evolve tuned 335d did 0-30/60/100mph in 2.1s/5.3s/11.9s in the Dec 08 BMW Car mag test.
If not, maybe as a reference this helps....
