An E-Class estate is about the best car in the world. An E63 AMG estate is without doubt the best car in the world. The estate also looks a little less lairy than the saloon. Dark blue over black leather would be nice. It would be even nicer to get one in the Business Line trim offered in the fatherland.

If you need to transport a dog, a couple of kids, and luggage on long journeys there is little to compare.
Had one two years. As a needs-must appliance they are superb. If you're looking for visceral motoring excitement move along nothing to see.

i've got a '11 E63 atmo estate - one of the best allrounders i've ever run. much more dynamic than a V10 RS6 (i had two of those) and less compromised than the E60 M5 (had one of each generation M5's over the years). turn off the driver stability controls and it is a proper hooligan too. also the fact it looks like a hearse rather appeals to me. i don't like to court attention when i want to 'make progress', which is rather easy in a 525ps E63.

The plan was to get an A6 3.0 TDI Avant. But it worked out nearly £7,000 more than the E-Class once a few toys had been added.
Had to get an SE 250CDI with the "Comfort Suspension" as SWMBO (who mostly drives it) couldn't get on with the Sport's hard ride and hugging sport seats. So it's a bit boaty on twistys and r/abouts although playing with the gear paddles helps. It has the leather-look Artico which is relatively indestructible.
I'll be loading it up and driving it down to South of France next week. The 250CDI engine may not look mu9ch on paper but has all the real-world speed and acceleration you would ever need. Down the Autoroute at 85mph in whisper silence and a slight dab on the pedal when a Twingo tries to get fruity. 47mpg is respectable.
I fantasise over a new Rangie. But when a year-old E Sport can be had for £25,000 the RR dream disappears!
When you say 'old shape' do you mean the pre-2009 line? Or the facelift 2013 shape? Apart from some new tweaks to the bodywork and dash the 2013 is pretty much the same as the 2009- models. Although you get more standard kit (e.g. leather, Comand) from 2013.

Yea 2009. I am not really a fan of the 2013 look. it looks too messy, lights have been trying so hard to beat Audi. For the 2013 model I would rather have a F10 M5 haha. I went with Seawise recommendations just over a year ago now with my E63 Estate - and wow its been great. Lived passed my expectations and like Seawise had many of fine car before the AMG and this really does tick the boxes for me now. Estate so much more useful and does merge in better,superlightr said:

cheers, funnily enough one of my pals who is a motoring journo was invited by Mercedes to drive all the current range of AMG estates (C63, CLS63 and E63) and his comment to me was that the E63 was the best package with a chassis that was less reliant on the electronics than the CLS and more benign than the C63. as a drivers car, he thought the E63 was more fun than either of it's stablemates.
