Looking at buying a new car so tried to do an on-line search for VIN checkers, but every one says the VIN given does not exist, even though I have a copy of the V5 (foreign equivalent) here. Anyone help me solve this problem before I go any further with the purchase?

There is one more really good for parts:
http://www.auto-parts.spb.ru/cat/cats/m.mycat?cat=...
This one gives you all the options for your car (build sheet)

I hope this will help you

At the risk of seeming (no comments) stupid, that site in Russian comes up in Cyrillic when I tap in the number but no details. Perhaps it is because the car is last years and the system isn't up to date? My old smoker CDi220 T202 works with all build records, but the new T204 estate doesn't. I am not really worried, more curious, since I am buying from Daimler Munich and will ask the question when I pick the car up Thursday. Looking forward to a change after 12 years! Haven't decided whether to sell the old 'un or keep her for local use to save DPF problems and drive her until she drops. She's just run in at 160,000.

What is the VIN number? The second-posted Russian site works really well and is good back to the '70s.

Actually, I have just read the posts carefully. The non-Merc EPCs don't have the latest cars on them. Certainly they don't have the facelift 212 on them, for example. So it maybe that your car is too new.

Either the facelift 204 is not yet listed or there is a mistake with that number. C200 CDIs are listed under 204.007 and 204.207 on the Russian site. I suspect you're looking at a facelift car and the data is not yet available. I'll have a look on my old PC which has a connection to the Merc EPC.

Thanks for that. I wonder how I have managed in the past without rain sensors and headlamp ones. But I had no idea I had heated seats! Looking forward to picking it up but not the drive back from Munich! I looked back, and this is my third Merc in 20 years, so getting quite excited! It'll probably outlive me now.
