2004 CLASS - Which Engine?

Hi,
Set on a C class estate as my daily driver is slowly falling apart!

I want reasonable fuel economy, but the ability to overtake if I need to. I've always been a petrol man (derv is the devils creation is it not!), so am looking at either the SC 1.8 or the 2.0 litre. Which is the best of these 2 for power and economy?

Perhaps I am being silly not considering a derv? I do less than 10k a year so would prefer to pay a bit more for petrol and have a bit more performance.

Your thoughts please.

Don't they have the M271 engine? If so, I seem to remember it has issues. I reckon you'd be better off in an M112 V6. Have a look on mbclub.co.uk for more info.

As long as the car was built later than dec 06 the mods will have been done, so all 2007 cars are well clear.
