to sell a ex-taxi in Germany (or a hire car) it must be declared as such
there are gazillions of million km merc taxis out there, nothing unusual at all
and when they're finished they'll go to africa for a few more miles
'elfenbein' (ivory) is indeed the usual colour, but some areas allow black nowadays, and even then the ivory is usually only a wrap

fair point - now you mention it I do remember seeing plenty of Merc taxis in Gambia - they are presumably painted green on arrival and most represent the better end of the Gambian taxi spectrum condition-wise - which isn't actually saying very much but credit where its due, they manage to keep them going somehow!there are gazillions of million km merc taxis out there, nothing unusual at all
