C63 oil dipstick reliable?

I know some owners got confused by the number of markers on their oil dipstick (not sure why) but im having issues getting a solid reading on the oil level.

Engine is cold and its been sat overnight. I take the stick out, wipe it down, and then replace the stick, pull it back out and check the level. Problem is, the level is not consistently clear. Sometimes is a nice clear reading and then when I double check the stick is oily all up the shaft. Sometimes when I check it the level looks really low, and then on second reading its overfilled.

Anyone else struggle to read their oil level?

My M119 V8 is like this every so often.

No need to remove it, clean it and re-fit it. Just pull it out and check the level if it's been left overnight, it will be a clear reading.

Agree with what your saying Eddie, you don't seem to get a clear / clean reading I find the best way is to measure after a run when you know the oil is hot and then let it settle for a few mins

Manual says wait 5 mins after a run, then check.

I had this problem some years ago. Turned out that I was using an old polishing cloth to wipe the dipstick down. Every time I wiped the stick, I applied more silicone which stopped the oil sticking to the metal... Took me ages to work out what was going on!
