I currently own a Mercedes which is just over 12 months old, that's only slightly relevant to this moan. I was looking at upgrading to an AMG and found one on the Mercedes used website at a certain dealer. I filled out the enquiry form asking if they were interested in part ex on my current car against their car. Simple, polite enquiry, no demands.....

Nothing, no reply, 5 days have passed. Not even a "no thank you"

fk them

I called two dealers at 530pm saying I would like to buy a CLS Grand Edition please can you give me some finance details.

Both said "sorry our business manager has gone home but we will call you tomorrow and try to help you to buy the car".

Never rang back!! Didn't buy their cars on principle.

Instead dealt with Inchcape in Nottingham who were great and they got my business instead. It is all down to the person who answers the phone!!

Lack of response to e-mails is not restricted to Mercedes.

IME, your best bet is to call them.

I've had quite the opposite experience as I've worked to find the right deal for a C63 these last few weeks, with dealers working hard to find me the right car at the right price, and just about all of it being done over email (which I far prefer).

It's a shame that not all dealers are prompt and efficient over it nowadays (some seem to treat email enquiries as not being serious), but the three that I was dealing with we're excellent, including the brilliant Mattc from the board here.

Yep a lot of places just don't bother with emails as they have such a low sale rate.

I made a couple of e-mail enquiries last week, and both dealers called me back next day. Good, positive service I thought.

You think email is bad. I made 3 trips to my local MB dealer and each time I ended up walking out without speaking to anyone. The sales guys were either serving people or hiding. By contrast the porsche dealer at the other end of the road were very professional both times I visited them.

In my experience, there's good and bad, as with everything. My experience a few years ago with my local dealer was poor. However, recent experience was a marked contrast, excellent follow up etc etc.. No doubt depends on the individual salesman. A non-local dealer was also excellent, so no complaints from me. Similar story with Jaguar, absolutely no follow ups years ago, but recently excellent service. Maybe they have to work a bit harder for business now?

I'd be surprised if that stat is true nowadays. I just bought my new C63 entirely over email, and feel far, far more comfortable dealing this way. People (on both sides) tend to be far more careful in terms of accuracy when it's recorded in an easily readable email. It removes any possibility of "oh, no, I definitely wouldn't have said that".
