w210 e430 T 4-matic....should I?

Couldn't really find a thread on this so I am asking for some infos. Looking for a big barge to do the odd family cruise in. It needs to be cavernous and provide a "special" wafty cruising experience. I've read the horror rusting stories, but this aside is this model (mechanicals and electronics, especially the 4matic) solid or better to look somewhere else? It does come from the "questionable" Merc years.
