What to look for?

I've currently got another old Merc (SEC) so rot is a given.

From what I've read the engines are bomb proof and will run and run, which is cool. I'm assuming we are talking glacier slowness? I imagine 80hp hauling a standard 123 would be slow but with the extra "limo-ness" these must be comically slow?

Only real declared issue on car is a slippy box. Whats the worst case if a fluid change doesn't help?

Car is a 1985 model with 125k on it.

Swap the 'box for a working one. No biggy. You just need to buy it!

I far from need to (and really shouldn't...but strangely want too. Under the pretence of using it somehow as a mobile advertising device for my business...

There is nothing funny about the rate of progress, glacial downhill, positively tectonic going the other direction.
The fuel economy is not that good either, a 230 petrol is IMHO a much better bet.
