Hi,

Not sure about anything definitive, but a few of us have posted our thoughts on what to look out for regarding the W215.

Here are a couple of links:

As they were relatively rare cars - then picking owners' thoughts is the way to go. I think in 2006, there were only 170 odd CL55s made, so would believe that for the V12, there'd only be a fraction of that figure - say, 30%, produced in the same timeframe. So, you'll more likely receive greater intuition from the masses on something like a Continental GT, than one of these.

I haven't - anecdotally - heard of things that often go wrong on the big Mercedes engines and paradoxically I'd guess that the AMG powerplants would be even more trustworthy than the standard units. This being due to the extra work and attention that goes into building them. By and large they are un-burstable. Of course there are always exceptions to any 'rule'.

My gut feeling about these cars is that they don't thrive if used sparingly. I'm not saying that they should show stellar mileage, but considering the systems complexity of the thing, regular usage, and a good set of bills, will make you believe it's been looked after. Strangely enough I'd be happier to see some ABC remediation work for instance, on potentially 10 year old car, than not.

Are you looking at '65s in particular or just interested in the best W215 opportunities out there?
