Have always liked the idea of one of these cars, I have always had TVR's to date [well the last 14 years] with no problems, but my other half wont drive it, I don't use it much [300 miles this year and only 17k miles from new] as it's got to the stage I don't like to get it dirty. It was on TVR stand at NEC last year. So, I've been having thoughts about changing for an SLK55 AMG, should I? Has anyone done similar? Anyone in the midlands who would show me around one?
Thanks.

What age? New or used?

Yes you should.
I just got a cracking 2006 SLK55 and am very impressed with it.
Might not be the most powerful considering the size of the engine, but it pushes on nicely enough and sounds incredible.

It will give you a sense of occasion each time you use it.
We bought ours as a third car so for occasional use only. Note I said we - the wife loves it too, which was one of the reasons for the purchase, she wasn't interested in my Clio V6 and I got to the same stage as you with it, never used, didn't like to get it out of the garage, nor would she ever drive it. She will drive this.

I went from a Tamora to a 996 then to a SLK55. Hated the 996, love the SLK had it a year it's an amazing car. But the pull to something with 4 seats might mean I might look to sell it on.
If you want any questions answering just ask.

Ps I wish I'd kept my Tam but onwards and upwards.

I've had one for four years and love it. I had a Cerbera before which I really liked a lot but I prefer the SLK. That AMG engine just sounds so lovely when pushed.

Well I did it and bought one. I looked around for ages for a car that ticked a few boxes for me. I looked at several TVR's but (I know I will get slated for this!)they look and feel like a kit car to me... And they just felt agricultural to drive. I also swore years ago that I would never have another fibre glass car as the paint never seems right and gives problems... I looked at a few Porsche, but they just didn't do it for me.

So I bought an SLK55. I deliberately went for an early one as the tax is cheaper, and I tend to keep my cars a while...

They sound FANTASTIC, and even better with a £300 X pipe to replace the centre silencer! The biggest problem for me was finding a colour I liked... most seem to be black or silver, and I hated ones with two tone seats... in the end I bought this and have been very pleased with it. Great engine, it just pulls and pulls, and is actually not too bad on fuel given 5.4 engine!

I am three months into SLK 55 ownership and loving it too. Still have the Chimaera but will probably look to sell next year as the 55 covers all the bases and that engine sound. I thought the TVR exhaust note was amazing but this is something else!

Love the car, just needs a set of multi-spokes and it will be perfect!

If you leave the second Cats on its still quiet untill you give it the beans, and quiet cruising, it's a nice mod!

They were my first choice... But the combination of the colour, condition and mileage of the car won me over.... I can't justify the cost to change!

Nice. I actually prefer those alloys and the fact the car isn't black or silver on the multi spokes. ETTO!

I still like these - some people claim them to be a bit 'middle aged woman' but the AMG version looks far, far better when you see one on the road.

Don't forget to read up about the brake discs, heated seats and spark plug changes for when you view/enquire about any.
