Hi any advice on fixing a W124 (estate) headlights dropped (seem to have disconnected from the electric height adjuster) both pointing down and demolishing our dipped beam distance.

The height adjustment isn't electrical. It's done by vacumn. Check your vacumn pipes at the headlamps and work your way back.

The other thing you can do is adjust the headlamp level manually at the headlamps. There is a knurled knob on the upper rear of the headlamp assembly, directions in the handbook. Since the estate has self-levelling suspension, the headlamp level adjustment is a bit pointless.
