My search for a decent BMW 3-Series has resulted in me wondering of a C-Class can do the same for a little more comfort. I'm wondering what would be the best car (in your opinion) to choose?

Basically a 2007 C-Class crops up quite a lot - the only thing is it's both W203 and W204.

For my £6-7k I can be in either one of the last W203 in Avantgarde spec or the very first W204 with Elegange.

Now obviously the Avantgarde has more kit, notably leather and decent alloys but I really don't mind have toys or not - I can seriously take them or leave them. I would even go as far to say I like so called 'rep spec' models.

So we're still tied.

The next is the engine : both have the 180 Kompressor engine so can't split them there. I am also contemplating the 220 CDI.

Mileage wise you will get a 203 with lower miles bit the divide isn't that different 15-20k currently separates the two models.

Now I know the with the new model out know the 203 will be a whole generation older but which would you choose?

Thanks

Ps I don't want to get into the engine choice as it's been decided. Cheers

Go for the W204 (and I'm not just saying that as I have an early W204).

You won't have the quality issues with the W204 like there were with the early W203's (although the later W203's were supposed to be a lot better). Merc says that the W204 is a return back to the quality of the 70's/80's Mercs - not too sure about that, but my 57 plate W204 has been reliable since I have owned it.

Also, bear in mind that the W205 will be on sale soon, at least with the W204 you will be only 1 gen behind.

W204, also to eliminate any rust problems that plagued the W203.

Are post 2004 W203s galvanised? Is the 180K a good engine?

Won't the Avantgardes have firmer suspension than the Elegance/SE? If you are after comfort, beware the lure of nice alloys and lowered suspension. smile

I had a 2006 W203 C350.

It was built like a tank, had some rust on an arch that was sorted by the garage but that was it.

It was a lovely car smile
