My car (11 plate pre facelift C63 estate with performance package) is just coming up 3 years old and just had service at local MB dealer. Needs to go back for a warranty item, tyres (8,500 miles of mainly the missus driving, both rears showing canvas!!) as well as advised automatic transmission fluid and diff fluid change.

I queried the diff oil item. The service advisor said initially it was because mine had the performance pack and the LSD that it was required. When I pointed out that the LSD was not included as part of the pp on my car he went away to double check and confirmed that the service scheduling stated that as it has the p30 performance package then the diff oil change is definitely required.

My question is whether a standard C63 without LSD requires a diff oil change? If so my suspicion is that the mercedes servicing schedule advises it is required as it has pp, based on the fact that previous pp models did have LSD.......an 'it's because the computer says so' response?

Also £290 inc vat for auto transmission fluid and £129 inc vat for diff oil sound about right - struck me as pricey. Any thoughts?

Non-diff model DOES NOT NEED DIFF OIL CHANGE! Where did you take it to? Should be sealed for life.

Re-book it via Matt Carrington (matc) at Poole. He will sort you out.

Hmmm, exactly what I thought hence querying it once verbally and again by email. It was Poole but not Matc's fault as he is sales (i did have a brief chat with him after taking their 13 plate E63 biturbo out for a test drive whilst mine was in the workshop - quite impressed, didn't feel the extra size/weight really).

A bit disappointing on the service front though particularly as I gave them two chances to check......

To be 100% honest I think Poole has some brain cell deficiency in the service dept. Ive had a couple of niggles when organising service work but once rectified / advised they did get the job done. I think the approach to take is to assume they know nothing and to tell them what needs doing. A lot of the time these people follow flow chart paths to get to a vague solution. Sometimes you need to step in with some common dog to help.

Ask matc to help and all will be well.
