ml270 how do i know if my turbo has gone

my ml has just come back from the garage, still smoking bad when i put my foot down.
the garage thinks it might be st in the full so has used full cleaner. he has checked the computer
for error codes. The inter cooler pipe had blown of on the way to garage that is back on now he did not find oil round the exhaust . Any ideas
