E Class estate lease deals & any owner experience?
Discussion
My dad is looking for a new work horse and quite likes the new E Class estate. Does anyone know of a good broker to use please? We haven't leased before and it looks as though there are literally loads of brokers/deals. Looking at a 3 year lease and ideally at an E220 CDI as it's going to do c20k pa.
Anyone have any experience of the new model? Be good to hear if so.

I have a C63 which is being repaired at the mo after hitting a deer. I have a brand new E220 cdi as a courtesy car. Saloon not estate. I previously had an E350 cdi estate.
The 220 is lovely to drive. Very relaxing, extremely comfortable and pretty economical. I did a 220 mile round trip today and it averaged 49mpg. It is extremely well put together.
In my eyes, it is a bit soft, but I am probably comparing it to my 63. It is also pretty gutless, but once it gets rolling its fine.
All in all a very capable cr.

Yep got one of those, had it for just coming up a year, as said not the quickest car out there, but it doesn't need to be, very comfortable and nice place to sit. The 2013 facelift seems extrememly well put together, it was one of the deciding factors in getting one for me aginst 5's and A6's.
I do a short commute of 12 miles and average 40mpg most stuck in traffic 1/2 gear crawling. It'll happily give near 50 on a longer run and for kicks the other day I tried an economical run on duals/Mway not exceeding 70mph for about 20 miles, got 63mpg........got bored of that and then did normal driving and averaged 48mpg.

For clarity the eco run not exceding 70; this was not using cruise as I find letting the speed bleed up hills down to 50ish and letting it reach 70 down hill, probably averaging 60mph is more economic that setting cruise at say 60. Boring stuff and not normally used by me.
Drive normally up to 85mph but not sustained, will see it knocking the door of 50mpg all day long, average a gentle 70 and it'll be nearer 56mpg. Very short town drives sub 2 mile length to the shops etc and stop starting for junctions etc will like any other diesel and nearer 30-35mpg.

2010 E220 Estate. Just coming upto 100k.
Great car, averaging 47mpg, but have got 60+mpg when taking it steady. Mine has 5G box, so the newer 7G should do even better.
Only issue to date was the water pump seized at 92k, car was out of warranty, but with full MBSH. Courtesy car arrived promptly through Mobilo, and MB repaired the car FOC.
I can't recommend these cars and my experience of MB customer service highly enough.
Regards, Neil

I have a 2014 E250 and it is perfect as a long distance cruiser, the latest models all have command etc as standard so no need to go into the options list.
It is nippy enough and in the 4000 miles I have driven in it it has averaged 47mpg.
I managed around a 10k discount in February, so far I'm impressed.

I keep toying with the idea of leasing one. I suspect the E220 CDI SE is a superb machine.
I think one cheap extra that would make a big difference would be the 80litre fuel tank (code 915). It's only £100, but presumably gives the car very long legs.
Personally, I'd choose light brown burr walnut interior trim as well (code H14) at a cost of £285. I really don't understand why MBUK spec such grim standard trims.
It is worth noting that the silk beige upholstery comes with espresso brown dash and door tops: much, much nicer than the coal hole black that comes with the other upholstery colours (again, lord knows what MBUK is thinking of here). Finally, it also worth knowing that there is an additional exterior colour not shown in UK price lists, dolomite brown metallic.

Have you contacted Matc on here? He has put good deals together for PH'ders in the past.
I hadn't, but I have now - cheers. Thanks for that Harry much appreciated, impressive figures for a big tank.
I have had my 2011 E250 cdi estate from new and am quite impressed with it. Definitely not the most exciting car to look at or drive but then again as a large family car it ticks all the boxes. I have 7G auto but the economy isn't amazing - about 42 mpg average over 36000 miles. If I'm really really gentle with the throttle I can get it up to 53mpg, but that's seriously boring driving.
Boot is huge.
E250 has loads of torque for a 4-pot engine, but the downside is tht it sounds like a bag of nails when cold. The tyre noise on my AMG wheels is alone excessive.
The benefits outweigh the negatives though. The car feels really solid, is very relaxing to drive and costs next to nothing to run. The after sales experience at M-B Bristol is also top notch. I'll be getting another one in January when my lease is up.
