I've never bought a Mercedes before but I have to be honest our first time buying experience recently was average. Nice friendly staff but terrible product knowledge (could't even answer if the warranty is extendable and I knew my way around the car better than the salesperson and have only been in a GL for 5 mins once before). Furthermore our car was dirty lots of scuff marks (nothing serious just an unconcientious valeter) and the optional alloy wheels we ordered the car with weren't on the car. The dealer also had a touch of paranoia after we had paid them for the car by making us sign an export disclaimer affirming car was not for export.

Just a general observation but if Mercedes/AMG want to remain a prestige brand need to up their game a bit. I went to 3 dealers before putting down an order deposit and pretty much the same story at all of them in terms of their very poor AMG knowledge base. Car was also 12 months late in terms of delivery - we had to wait 18 months after being promised delivery within 3 months. Personally I'd separate the AMG brand with its own specialised centres as its really being ruined the way its being sold in the UK at the moment. Products are great though. Impressed with the general quality and fit inside the new GL (few cheap plastics aside but fixable after a short visit to the trimmers if you're OCD) - nice alternative to a Range Rover and or Discovery if you need seven seats. Engine note to die for from twin turbo V8 - why can't Porsche make its turbos sound like this?!

bloody hell what a delay!

I hated my dealer with a passion, lying bunch of crooked buggers!

-What happens with a delay like that? what are your options, recompense? courtesy car? discount? would be stuffed if you'd sold a car in anticipation of the new arrival!

Welcome to the wonderful world of AMG ownership where the dealer will have zero knowledge of the car, try and force you down south for a service and assume your a time waster when asking for a test drive in a s500 as you clearly cant afford it as only turned up in a battered 4x4 (it was a g55 that was bought from them two years before)
Agreed their engines are lovely and I do miss the g wagen but with maserati so closely priced they need to up their game a lot.

No compensation whatsoever. We had already negotiated a very substantial discount via our car broker Paul at Alliance Prestige who is a MB accredited supplier - can't recommend Paul enough. Only real loss we incurred was an extra £5k depreciation on our Disco but thats not really a cash loss as I will now keep the Disco as my daily runaround - can't really replace the Disco with anything at all which is all around capable family transport for the same money.

We bought a 4 yr service pack for £42 a month which i think is reasonable - we only pay for consumables over the 4 year period - works at any MB dealer.

They really need to up their game to keep AMG customers going elsewhere.
