R129 cats death rattle

The workshop that maintains my 1999 SL 500 is trying to get a new pair of cats for it.

They have one side from Mercedes' stock in the UK, but the other side has been on backorder in Germany, for some weeks and with no ETA.

Does anyone have any ideas? De-catting has been suggested, but I'm weirdly fastidious about keeping the car to its original specification.

you can get it cheaper from independent parts guys, which will be the basically same item just without the star. Did this on my grandads s500 with the same engine. BM i think was the brand name....
