CLK or E class advice please

OK, I am looking for a new car, based on a budget of £5k.
I have had a 2005 320CDI E class, a 320 SLK and a 2005 220 cdi coupe, along with various BMW and much prefer the Merc.
As we have to restructure and downsize, I am again looking it the offer available.
I have not had a CLK but like the look. Smaller then the E but same quality.
I don't need an estate but don't mind a large car.
So, what would be your opinion on the CLK?
I am thinking maybe petrol as the E class had a DPF problem which put me off Diesel for a while.
Looking on the bay and autotrader, I could get a 2004 / 2005 CLK 280 with less than 100k on the clock, or another e class 2004 / 2005 estate.
Over to you guys for opinions, warnings about problems with models etc.
