Challenging the Goodwill Decision from Mercedes UK
Discussion
The wifes car is a 53 Plate W211 which now has the dreaded SBC error. Greenoaks kindly lightened my wallet by £130 to tell me that there was no goodwill. To say that I am fuming is an understatement. The wife and I have been sole Mercedes owners for over 15 years.
Who (name please) in Mercedes UK is the best to write and explain how I feel.

I had an issue with finance payments and that MB had incorrectly held cash for years! I liaised with the following contact who helped. She is finance person, but the generic customer service email address may help. Good luck!

Frankly, I think you will be wasting your time and increasing your blood pressure all to no avail. MB have never been the most generous of manufacturers when it comes to goodwill anyway, but with a fault on an 11 year old car, you will simply be p***ing in to the wind. Good luck with any attempt though and at least you will be getting it off your chest.
I think at that age, even if SBC is a ticking bomb, you will not be successful with them. I got nowhere asking for a contribution to failing exhaust manifolds (a known problem on early V6 diesels) on an owned from new, FMBSH 7 year old CLS. Several emails and calls, and even a threat of leaving the brand and buying an Audi, or even a BWW, would not shift them!
They did pretty easily offer 34% (quite where they got that number from?) of the cost of a new inlet port shut down motor on a 5 year old FMBSH E class diesel, and stuck with the % when the cost tripled due to the inlet manifold being found to be broken too. More would have been good, or even the fault not appearing at all of course, but I take the view any complicated car has bork potential, full service history or not - it's a choice we make.
