SLK R172 AMG sport suspension - have they softened it?

I've just swapped my 2012 SLK250CDi AMG Sport for an identical 2014 car.
The 2012 car was, er, "a bit firm" in the suspension department. In fact it was absolutely bone jarring. Urban roads were dreadful.
Car had Conti Sportcontact 5s on, or WinterContact TS830Ps on over winter (same size).
The new car is another world - it rides bumps much better and manhole covers don't knock my teeth out. It's either the tyres, which on the new one a Bridgestone something-or-others (with rim protector - yay!) or the suspension has been softened - whatever it is it's soooo much better.
It makes me wonder if MB are actually listening to people's common complaints about German cars: the suspension is simply too hard.
