I have a 2009 E280 Sport. I don't know of any generic problems but mine has been very reliable. Issues to date have been:
MOT fail for excess movement in track rod end.
Glow plug pre heater and oxygen sensor replacement (expensive)
Tail gate is starting to sag a bit when opened
Several new alloys due to buckling and cracking due more to crappy roads than poor quality rims

Supposedly electrics on the pre-facelift ones and valeo rads. Loads and loads of threads on these on Mbclub UK)

The facelift 280's and 320's are great.

Sports ones look best to my eyes (18 inchers and dual exhausts).

Stick a Brabus box on it and it's a great allrounder.

Not sure if they had sorted the Valeo radiator problem on the 55 plates. If not check it has been replaced. They are known to rust and leak glycol into the gearbox, usually resulting a new radiator and torque convertor.

The 5 speed box and 4 pots are very sturdy if serviced properly and will do big mileages.

They have a tendancy to break front springs, but not expensive to replace.

Rust should not be an issue with this year.

Front springs have a tendancy to break on your driveway overnight.

I have a colleague who has an '04 320Cdi Estate with 228k, had no major issues other than springs, just gone through the MOT with no advisories.

Good reliable workhorses with a good turn of speed and 40 plus mpg.
